Sidewalks & Steps Winnipeg
WALKS AND STEPS THAT STAY SAFE
No Hidden Costs • No Mess • No RegretFront walks, steps and landings built to stand up to salt, shovels and freeze-thaw, so they stay flat and safe instead of heaving and scaling.
What Goes Into Hyde Park Sidewalks & Steps
Your front walk and steps are the first thing people use, and the first thing winter goes after. Every walk and set of steps we pour gets the same spec as our driveways.
-
5–8% air entrainment gives freezing water room to expand, which is what stops salt and freeze-thaw from scaling the surface of your walk and steps.
-
10M rebar on chairs keeps sections tight so they don’t heave apart, and microfibres control the small shrinkage cracks as the concrete cures.
-
At least 6 inches of compacted granular base, so the walk doesn’t settle, tip or turn into a trip hazard, and a slope that sheds water away from the house.
-
Steps are formed with even risers so nobody misses one, and walks get a broom finish for grip in wet and icy weather.
What Do Sidewalks & Steps Cost?
Send us your details and a few photos, and we’ll give you a price range by phone before we ever come out. No job is too small, though smaller jobs carry a minimum charge. It often makes sense to do the walk together with a driveway or patio.
-
Broom-finish walks are priced like the rest of our flatwork, typically $14–$24 per sq ft installed. Smaller walks carry a minimum charge.
-
Steps are priced per job, based on the number of risers, the width and the landing. We’ll give you a range by phone.
-
Tear-out and haul-away of your existing walk or steps typically runs $2–$5 per sq ft.
-
Length and width, number of steps, how much comes out, access and the finish. Your written quote spells out every line, so there are no surprises.
-
Fresh concrete needs warmth to hydrate and gain strength. After about Labour Day, a sunny afternoon can still feel fine, but overnight lows stall the curing process. The slab looks great going into winter, then scales, flakes or pops the following spring. That’s why we wrap up exterior flatwork around Labour Day; we’d rather book you for the first warm weeks of spring than pour a slab that won’t last.
How We Build Your Walk or Steps
From the first call to the first time you walk on it. Most walks and steps are a short job, plus curing time.
-
Send us your details and a few photos, and we’ll talk it through by phone and give you a price range. Once you’re comfortable with it, we come out, measure, check grades and drainage, and give you a final, itemized number on the spot. Sign off and leave a deposit, and you’re on the schedule.
-
We break out and haul away the old walk or steps, dig down to solid ground, and build up a compacted granular base.
-
Forms are set to grade, steps are formed with even risers, the rebar goes in on chairs, and we pour, broom-finish and cut control joints.
-
You can walk on it after 24–48 hours, and it reaches full design strength at 28 days. Go easy on salt, especially the first winter. We’ll leave you clear care instructions.

“From on-site consultation to quoting and permitting, we were taken care of every step of the way—it was a relief to have one less thing to concern ourselves with. The workers and the workmanship were great, and we found the whole process timely and pleasant.”
