How We Build Concrete
CONCRETE THAT LASTS IN WINNIPEG
No Hidden Costs • No Mess • No RegretOur exact spec, curing times and how pricing works, so you know what you’re paying for and can compare quotes properly.
Our Standard Spec
Most contractors won’t tell you what goes into the slab. This is our standard for driveways and exterior flatwork. Almost nobody here uses wire mesh for flatwork anymore; it’s rebar, and you should see it on your job before the pour.
-
Strong enough for vehicles and Manitoba winters. 5–8% air entrainment gives freezing water room to expand, which prevents scaling and popping.
-
A full rebar grid on chairs holds the slab together if it cracks, so pieces don’t shift or heave apart. Structural slabs get more and bigger bar, to the design.
-
Fibres blended into the concrete help control the small surface cracks that form as a slab cures.
-
A properly compacted base keeps the slab from settling and is the first layer in a long lasting slab.
Garage Floors, Curing & Pour Season
The questions we get asked most, answered straight.
-
A garage floor gets the same spec as a driveway. Most failed garage floors sit on bare clay or heaved gravel base, and pouring over that repeats the problem. We remove the failed base, deal with any water issues and rebuild it properly. The apron is often done at the same time.
-
Walk on it after 24–48 hours. Park on it after two weeks. It reaches full strength at 28 days.
-
Concrete needs warmth to cure and gain strength. Once overnight temperatures drop, curing stalls and the slab never reaches its strength. It looks fine going into winter, then scales, flakes or pops the next spring. So we stop exterior flatwork around Labour Day.
-
No. We remove and replace. If the slab underneath has failed, a new surface on top won’t fix it. Thin lifts of concrete don’t perform well long term.
-
All concrete will crack. Its an inflexible material. Proper control joints decide where, and rebar keeps a crack from turning into a shifted or heaved slab.
How Pricing Works
No “free quote” runaround. You get a price range first, then one site visit for the final number.
-
Tell us what you need and roughly how big, and we’ll give you a range, so you know if we’re a fit before anyone’s time is spent.
-
We measure, confirm the details and give you the final number. A deposit locks in your date. No job is too small, though there are minimum charges; we’ll tell you on the first call.
-
The number on your quote is the number on your invoice.
-
Our work carries a 2-year warranty. We’re WCB covered and carry millions in liability insurance.
